#8: User Analysis

I continued to work on the forms project and graduation dates project this week as I wait for SMEs to contact me. I don’t have too much to share about those projects, but I did something new this week!

I went out into the world and did in-person user research and analysis. I went to Bruininks Hall to interview students about their thoughts on One Stop texting students about things such as registration and payments. I asked students if they had a few minutes to take a short survey. If they did, they would get a cookie :) In total, I interviewed about 15 students over a 1.5 hour-long period.

I really enjoyed doing this! This further cemented in my brain that I like doing UX research. It was definitely a bit out of my comfort zone to do this—I previously had never been one to strike up conversation with strangers—but it was really fulfilling. I was nervous at first, but it quickly became easy. The large majority of people I asked said yes.

There are positives and negatives to doing any kind of UX research. Although you can already learn a lot from online surveys, it is interesting to hear the survey takers’ tone of voice in in-person interviews. A “yes” online can be interpreted differently than an enthusiastic “yes” in-person.

The next step is to take time and sit down and interpret the data, which will be equally as interesting.

I look forward to hopefully doing more of this kind of research in the future!
