#10: Commencement Dates & Forms Work

It’s been awhile since I’ve updated my blog, but I have some big news…

Commencement dates are finally published on the academic calendar!

Being able to say that my first internship project is officially completed is very fulfilling. Knowing that my work is going to positively impact thousands of users is so great to think about. (It’s bittersweet, though, since I will be one of those graduating students soon…)

I have learned a lot from this project. A few of these things are:

  1. Communicating with stakeholders. Before this internship, sending emails to anyone made me nervous. Now, I feel more confident than ever (but getting a second set of eyes to look over my content before sending it is never a bad idea). I had to email people from every single college at the university, and some colleges had different contacts for their graduate and undergraduate programs. Altogether, I communicated with over 20 different people (not including my own coworkers). That’s a big step for me!

  2. Confidence and backing myself up. There have been a few hiccups in this project, especially with communicating with contacts from the colleges at the U. But I knew this project was important, so I was able to grow my confidence and argue for the sake of this project.

  3. Navigating Drupal. I have learned other content management systems such as Wix, Squarespace, Google Sites, and more, so I had a good foundation, but Drupal was a new one to me. It hasn’t been too difficult, but there’s always a learning curve for new things. I feel comfortable with it now, though.

There are many other lessons and skills I have learned throughout this project, but that would take me all day to write about. All that to say: I’m very proud of myself for completing this project, and I’m very grateful for my coworkers for supporting me in doing it! I couldn’t have done it without their help.

Aside from commencement dates being published (yay!), I’ve still been working on forms work. I’ve continued to be in contact with stakeholders and SMEs, and I am waiting on them to finish checking my draft content. Hopefully I can begin to create the form pages soon!

I am also working on learning Salesforce Marketing Cloud. Through that, I will be able to send mass emails. I have never done something like this, so it is a bit of a learning curve.

For a personal update: I am graduating soon! Only a few short weeks, and then I will be an alum. It’s crazy! I am still learning a lot in my classes (like new technologies like Adobe Creative Cloud, Oxygen, and DITA).

See you next time!
